StickTale vs Hooked: a Hooked alternative built only for stickman explainers

Hooked is an AI video automation app for short-form channels. Its Stickman Video Generator is one preset in a larger toolbox that also makes avatar videos, AI clips, slideshows and ads. StickTale makes one thing: narrated stickman explainers built from a researched script. Below is how the two compare, based on Hooked's own pages as of October 22, 2026.

The short answer

Pick Hooked if stickman videos are one format among many for you. It covers avatars, AI clips, slideshows, scheduling, 25 languages and 4K export, and its lifetime option suits people who are comfortable managing their own API keys. Pick StickTale if the stickman explainer is the whole channel. It puts its effort where that format succeeds or fails: a researched, retention-planned script, one consistent character drawn from a reference sheet, and edits to any single scene, with a 45-60 second Short ready in about 2 minutes. It narrates in English only and does not auto-publish, so weigh that against how you work.

Hooked details checked on October 22, 2026 from their public pages (sources below). Prices and features change; check their site before deciding.

Choose Hooked if

  • You run several channels in different formats (avatars, slideshows, gameplay, AI clips) and want one app for all of them.
  • You want scheduling and auto-publishing built in. Pro lists 3 channels and 3 auto-channels.
  • You need narration in languages other than English.
  • You prefer paying $89 once and paying AI providers directly at cost, and you are fine setting up OpenRouter and ElevenLabs keys.
  • You want 4K export or 1:1 square videos.

Choose StickTale if

  • You want the classic stickman explainer look: big round white head, dot eyes, thin black limbs, a new picture about every 5 seconds.
  • You want research with sources you can check, and a script planned around a hook, an open loop, escalation, a twist and a payoff.
  • You want one consistent character drawn from a reference sheet, picked automatically, from presets, or from your own description.
  • You want to fix one scene at a time: rewrite a line and it is re-voiced, or redraw only that picture.
  • You want a 45-60 second Short in about 2 minutes, with titles, a description and a thumbnail ready to upload.

A stickman preset vs a stickman product

On Hooked, stickman is a generation preset. You pick a media type (AI Images, AI Videos, Motion Graphics or Gameplay), pick a preset, and the same pipeline that builds its other formats builds the video. Hooked also offers a "Continuous Mode" that feeds each scene into the next. That setup is useful if you test many formats and want to manage them in one place.

StickTale starts from the format instead. The look is fixed on purpose: hand-drawn stick figures, one calm narrator, a new still every few seconds with slow camera motion. That is how the history and psychology channels it imitates look. The settings you can change are the ones that matter for that look: the character, the tone and the narrator. Our guide on how a stickman explainer video is made walks through each step.

Credits, your own keys, or minutes

Hooked sells two ways. Pro is $29 a month for 1,000 credits, which its pricing page says is about 10 UGC ads or 250 images, with one-time credit packs from $19. The lifetime app is $89 once. You plug in your own OpenRouter and ElevenLabs keys, and Hooked says generation is then billed by those providers at cost, typically under $1 per finished ad.

StickTale plans count minutes of finished video. Starter is planned at $19 a month for 15 minutes and Creator at $49 for 45 minutes. A 60-second Short uses one minute, so Starter covers about 15 Shorts. If you like controlling provider costs yourself, Hooked fits. If you want a fixed number to plan a posting schedule around, minutes are simpler. Details are on the StickTale pricing page.

Publishing: automated or hands-on

Hooked includes a scheduler and a content calendar, and its Pro plan lists auto-channels. If you want videos to go out without touching them, that is a real advantage.

StickTale stops at export. You download the MP4 and an upload kit (alternative titles, a description, thumbnail text and a downloadable thumbnail) and post it yourself. That keeps a person looking at each video before it goes live, which matters on a channel built on facts. If you plan to post Shorts every day, our page on stickman explainers for YouTube Shorts covers a realistic routine.

Questions

Does Hooked have a stickman video generator?

Yes. Hooked has a Stickman Video Generator with a stickman style preset that renders clips as stick-figure line art on simple backgrounds, a "Character Lock Across Scenes" feature, ElevenLabs narration and word-level captions.

How much does Hooked cost?

On October 22, 2026, Hooked's pricing page listed Pro at $29 a month or $290 a year with 1,000 credits a month, credit packs from $19, and one-time packs: the course for $49, the app for $89 (using your own API keys), or both for $99. A free plan is not stated on the pricing page.

Can I use Hooked videos on a monetized channel?

Hooked's FAQ says you own 100% of what you create, with full commercial rights including ads and client work. The same answer notes that watermark-free export "depends on your plan tier", so check your plan.

Is StickTale cheaper than Hooked?

It depends on what you make. StickTale's Starter plan is planned at $19 a month for 15 minutes of finished video. Hooked Pro is $29 a month for 1,000 credits, and its pricing page doesn't say how many minutes of stickman video those credits cover. If you only make stickman Shorts, StickTale's minutes are easier to predict.

Can StickTale narrate in other languages?

Not yet. StickTale narrates in English only for now, with 7 male and female voices. If you need other languages today, Hooked lists 76 voices in 25 languages.
