StickTale vs Vyond: a Vyond alternative for solo explainer creators

Vyond is an AI video platform sold to companies. Its homepage names Learning and Development, HR, internal communications, marketing and sales as its audience, and says "65% of the Fortune 500 rely on Vyond." Its main tool, Vyond Studio, is a drag-and-drop animation editor with templates, a character creator, actions, expressions and lip sync. Vyond Go turns a prompt, script, document or web page into a draft video. StickTale is much narrower: you type one question and get a researched, narrated stickman explainer for a faceless YouTube channel. Here is how they compare, based on Vyond's own pages as of October 23, 2026.

The short answer

Pick Vyond if you make videos for a company or for clients and want real character animation: characters that walk, gesture and lip sync to a voice-over, hundreds of templates, 95-language translation, shared libraries and, on the top plans, a brand kit and SSO. It is a capable studio, and its prices reflect that: $99 a month, or $58 a month billed $699 a year, for one Starter seat. Pick StickTale if you are one person running a faceless explainer channel and want the classic stickman look of history and psychology Shorts. You type a question, and it researches, writes, draws and narrates the video, with a 45-60 second Short ready in about 2 minutes, from $19 a month. StickTale does not animate characters, narrates in English only and has no team accounts, so weigh that against what you need.

Choose Vyond if

  • You need characters that move: walking, pointing, presenting, with mouths that lip sync to your voice-over.
  • You make training, onboarding or marketing videos for a company, and want hundreds of business templates to start from.
  • Several people work on videos together and need shared libraries, user management, a brand kit or SSO.
  • You need narration or translation in languages other than English. Vyond lists 95 languages from Professional.
  • You want to place every prop and time every action yourself on a timeline.
  • You deliver videos to clients often and can use the Agency plan, which Vyond describes as "for creating client-facing content".

Choose StickTale if

  • You run a faceless YouTube channel on your own and the business pricing of a per-user studio does not fit your budget.
  • You want the stickman look of history and psychology explainer channels: big round white head, dot eyes, thin black limbs, a new picture about every 5 seconds.
  • You start from a question, not a script, and want the research, the sources and a fact-checked script done for you.
  • You want a script built for retention: a hook in the first line, an open loop, escalation, a twist and a payoff.
  • You would rather fix a video one line or one picture at a time than rebuild scenes on a timeline.
  • You want an upload kit with alternative titles, a description and a thumbnail alongside the MP4.

An animation studio for teams vs a one-question explainer tool

Vyond Studio is a full editor. You pick a template or start blank, drop characters and props on a stage, choose an action and an expression for each character, and assign a voice-over clip so the character lip syncs to it. You can record your own voice, use text-to-speech, or upload audio. That control is why companies use it for training and product videos: every scene can be laid out exactly the way the brand team wants.

That control also means work. A 6-minute history explainer might have 70 scenes, and in Vyond each one is built by hand, or drafted by Vyond Go and then corrected. StickTale skips the stage entirely. You type a question, pick a format, length, character, tone and narrator, and it writes the script, draws a reference sheet for the character, illustrates every scene with that character and records the narration in one continuous take. Our guide on how a stickman explainer video is made walks through each step.

Yes, Vyond has stick figures

Vyond's help center lists a Stick Figures category among its Contemporary characters, and a black-and-white Whiteboard style with a minimal look. So you can build a stickman video in Vyond, and your figures can gesture and talk. If you want animated stick figures acting out a scene with dialogue, that is a real point in Vyond's favor.

The difference is in what the figures are for. Vyond's characters come from a business asset library, with categories like Jobs & Workplace. StickTale draws a new picture for every line of narration, so a scene can show a Roman fuller stomping laundry in a vat or a medieval doctor holding a leech, whatever the sentence is about. That matches the faceless channels it imitates, where the drawing changes every few seconds and the voice carries the story. Our faceless YouTube channel use case shows how creators use that style.

Vyond Go vs a researched script

Vyond Go is the closest thing Vyond has to StickTale. You give it a prompt, a script, a document or a URL, choose a layout (Conversation, Talking Head or Narration), pick characters and a "vibe" such as Formal or Playful, and it generates a video you can refine in Quick Edit or in the Studio. Its help center says drafts run around 2 minutes, that Go "will not listen to video duration, format, or number of characters in the prompt input", and that output languages other than English need Professional or above.

Vyond is also upfront that Go scripts "may not always provide accurate results" and should be reviewed. For a business video, the person reviewing usually knows the material. For a history or science Short, accuracy is the whole job. StickTale researches the question with Google Search, shows you the sources, plans the script around a retention playbook, then runs an editor pass that checks it against that research, on the rule that accuracy beats punch. Our guide to fact-checking AI scripts covers what to look for either way.

What it costs a solo YouTube creator

Vyond prices per user and aims its plans at teams. For one person, the realistic choices are Starter and Professional. Professional adds the 4M+ Shutterstock library, translation, team tools and 20,000 credits, and its help center notes that Starter users must upgrade to Professional to download Vyond Go videos that include Shutterstock assets.

StickTale prices by minutes of finished video. A 60-second Short uses one minute, so Starter covers about 15 Shorts a month. There is no free plan and no trial, but the first month is refundable within 14 days if you have used less than 20% of your minutes. See StickTale pricing for the current plans.

Monetizing on YouTube: the rules on each side

Vyond's help center says you can post videos on ad-supported sites such as YouTube, and that Starter and Professional licenses add the right to remove the Vyond logo and to sell videos. Free trial videos carry a watermark and cannot be downloaded at all. Two details matter for creators. If you use Shutterstock music from Vyond on a monetized YouTube video, Vyond asks you to put the exact line "This video contains music from Shutterstock, licensed by Vyond." in the description to avoid a claim. And if you make a video for someone else's business, Vyond requires a $99 per-video rights transfer, after which you can no longer use that video commercially yourself.

StickTale is simpler on this point: you own your videos and can use them on monetized channels and in client work. Whichever tool you use, YouTube still decides whether a channel qualifies for its Partner Program.

What a StickTale script looks like

This is the kind of structure StickTale plans for a faceless history Short: a hook in the first line, an open loop, a twist and a payoff that calls back to the start. Each line becomes one drawing.

Why did doctors once tell asthma patients to smoke?

  1. 1800sIn the 1800s, if you couldn't breathe, a doctor might hand you a cigarette.
  2. StramoniumNot tobacco. These were asthma cigarettes, packed with dried stramonium, a plant from the nightshade family.
  3. And the strange part is that, for some patients, they seemed to help.
  4. The plant carries chemicals that relax the airways.
  5. PoisonThe catch? Nobody measured the dose, and the same plant is a poison.
  6. Measured doseSo yes, doctors really did prescribe smoke for asthma. Some modern inhalers use a cousin of that same chemical, just in a measured dose.

Questions

Is there a free version of Vyond?

Vyond has a free trial, not a free plan. Its help center says trial users can make up to 3 videos, every video gets a watermark, downloads are not included, and the trial comes with 2,000 credits. In some regions Vyond also offers a 7-day plan trial for $10 that turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel.

How much does Vyond cost per month?

On October 23, 2026, Vyond's pricing page listed Starter at $99 a month, or $699 billed yearly ($58 a month), and Professional at $199 a month, or $1,199 yearly ($100 a month). Enterprise ($1,649 a year per user) and Agency ($1,999 a year per user) are billed yearly only.

Can I monetize Vyond videos on YouTube?

Yes. Vyond's help center says you can post videos on ad-supported sites like YouTube. Starter and Professional also let you remove the Vyond logo and sell videos, with a $99 rights transfer per video delivered to a client. If you use Shutterstock music from Vyond, add the line Vyond specifies to your description.

Can you make stick figure videos in Vyond?

Yes. Vyond lists a Stick Figures category among its Contemporary characters and a black-and-white Whiteboard style. You place the characters and set their actions yourself, and they can lip sync to a voice-over. StickTale instead draws a new stickman picture for every line of a script it writes from your question.

Can Vyond make a video from a text prompt?

Yes, with Vyond Go. It turns a prompt, script, document or URL into a draft of around 2 minutes using a Conversation, Talking Head or Narration layout. Vyond notes that Go scripts may not always be accurate and should be reviewed before you publish.

Is StickTale cheaper than Vyond?

For a solo creator, yes. StickTale's Starter plan is $19 a month for 15 minutes of finished video. Vyond's cheapest plan is $58 a month billed yearly, or $99 month to month. Vyond includes far more, though: full character animation, lip sync, team tools and many languages.
